The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By heaven and the night-star! 1 How will you comprehend what the night star is? 2 It is the star that shines with a piercing brightness -- 3 No soul is there but hath over it a watcher. 4 So man must consider from what he has been created. 5 He is created of water pouring forth, 6 issuing from between the backbone and the breastbone: 7 He certainly has the power to bring him back to life. 8 on the Day when consciences are examined, 9 He shall have neither strength nor helper. 10 By the sky which returns [rain] 11 by the earth cracking open with new growth. 12 surely it is a decisive word; 13 And no trifle. 14 They are hatching up a plot, 15 But I too am devising a plan. 16 So grant the unbelievers a respite: let them alone for a while. 17
