The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the heavens and that which comes in the night -- 1 How will you comprehend what the night star is? 2 The piercing star! 3 For every soul there is a watcher. 4 Let man reflect on what he was created from. 5 He was created of a gushing fluid, 6 which comes out of the loins and ribs. 7 Now, verily, He [who thus creates man in the first instance] is well able to bring him back [to life] 8 The day all secrets are examined 9 [man] will have no power, and no helper. 10 I swear by the raingiving heavens, 11 And by oath of the earth which flourishes with it. 12 Verily, it is a discourse distinguishing. 13 And it is not a frivolity. 14 Indeed the disbelievers carry out their evil schemes. 15 And I secretly plan. 16 Give respite to the disbelievers and leave them alone for a while. 17
