The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the heavens and al-tariq. 1 What could let you know what the nightly comer is! 2 The star of piercing brightness; 3 There is no soul but that it has over it a protector. 4 Now let man but think from what he is created! 5 He has been created from an ejected drop of fluid 6 Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs: 7 Indeed, Allah, to return him [to life], is Able. 8 The Day that (all) things secret will be tested, 9 and he shall have no strength, no helper. 10 By the heaven which giveth the returning rain, 11 And the earth splitting (with plants); 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 And it is not a frivolity. 14 They are cunningly devising, 15 and I am devising guile. 16 So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while. 17
