The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By heaven and the night-star! 1 How will you comprehend what the night star is? 2 It is the star that shines with a piercing brightness -- 3 There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels incharge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds, etc.) 4 LET MAN, then, observe out of what he has been created: 5 Created from a gushing fluid. 6 issuing from between the backbone and the breastbone: 7 Verily He is Able to restore him, 8 On the Day when man's deepest secrets shall be put to the test 9 Then will he have no might nor any helper. 10 By heaven of the returning rain, 11 And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),- 12 Indeed the Qur’an is a decisive Word. 13 and is no idle tale. 14 Behold, they [who refuse to accept it] devise many a false argument [to disprove its truth]; 15 And I am planning a scheme. 16 So grant the unbelievers a respite: let them alone for a while. 17
