The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the heaven and the comer by night; 1 and what could make you know what it is that comes in the night? 2 The star of piercing brightness; 3 Over every soul there is a watcher. 4 So let man observe from what he was created. 5 he has been created out of a seminal fluid 6 issuing between the loins and the breast-bones. 7 God has certainly power to bring him back (from the dead). 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 Then will (man) have no power, nor any helper. 10 By the heaven with its recurring cycle of rain, 11 And by oath of the earth which flourishes with it. 12 the Quran is the final word, 13 not a flippant jest. 14 They are cunningly devising, 15 and I am devising guile. 16 So bear with unbelievers with patience, and give them respite for a while. 17
