The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the heaven, and the night-visitor, 1 And what shall teach thee what is the night-star? 2 It is the star shining brightly. 3 There is no soul but has a protector over it. 4 So let man look - from what is he created. 5 Created from a gushing fluid. 6 that issues from between the loins and the ribs. 7 God has all power to resurrect him. 8 on the Day when consciences are examined, 9 Then man will have no power or any helper. 10 By the heaven which giveth the returning rain, 11 And the earth which opens up (with verdure), 12 Most surely it is a decisive word, 13 and is not to be taken lightly. 14 As for them, they are but plotting a scheme, 15 And I secretly plan. 16 So bear with unbelievers with patience, and give them respite for a while. 17
True are the words of God the Almighty.
