The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the heavens and al-tariq. 1 And what could make thee conceive what it is that comes in the night? 2 The piercing star! 3 [for] no human being has ever been left unguarded. 4 So let man consider from what he is created. 5 He is created from a drop emitted- 6 that issues from between the loins and the ribs. 7 Verily He is Able to restore him, 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 he will have no power, nor anyone to help him. 10 By the sky with its returning rain, 11 and the replenishing earth, 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 and is not to be taken lightly. 14 They are hatching up a plot, 15 And I (too) will make a scheme. 16 So respite the unbelievers; delay with them awhile. 17
