The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By oath of the heaven, and by oath of the nightly arriver. 1 And what could make thee conceive what it is that comes in the night? 2 (It is) the star of piercing brightness; 3 There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels incharge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds, etc.) 4 So let man consider of what he was created; 5 He is created from a water gushing forth. 6 issuing from between the backbone and the breastbone: 7 Verily He is Able to restore him, 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 when he will be helpless, with no supporter. 10 By the rotating heavens 11 and the replenishing earth, 12 Lo! this (Qur'an) is a conclusive word, 13 and is not to be taken lightly. 14 Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad) 15 And I secretly plan. 16 Therefore grant a delay to the Unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for awhile). 17
