The Comet (Al-Taareq)

17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)

In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace

By the heavens and al-tariq. 1 Do you know what al-tariq is? 2 The star of piercing brightness; 3 There is not a soul but over it is a keeper. 4 So let man consider from what he is created. 5 He is created from a water dripping, 6 issuing from between the loins [of man] and the pelvic arch [of woman]. 7 God has all power to resurrect him. 8 A day when the secrets will be examined. 9 Then will (man) have no power, nor any helper. 10 I swear by the raingiving heavens, 11 by earth splitting with verdure, 12 Most surely it is a decisive word, 13 And it is not a thing for amusement. 14 They are hatching up a plot, 15 And I (too) am planning a plan. 16 Let, then, the deniers of the truth have their will: let them have their will for a little while. 17
