Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 in a sublime garden, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 and goblets set forth 14 and arranged cushions 15 and carpets spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
