Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In a high Garden. 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions lined up 15 And carpets spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
