Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 raised couches, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 And cushions ranged 15 and carpets outspread. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
