Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 with a flowing spring, 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 And cushions ranged 15 And linen spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
