Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In the high empyrean, 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 and cushions ranged, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
