Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 well arranged goblets, 14 And cushions lined up 15 and outspread carpets. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
