Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In a high Garden 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 raised couches, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
