Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 labouring, weary, 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 in a garden sublime, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 and couches raised high, 13 And cups set at hand. 14 Cushions arranged, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
