Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 and raised couches, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
