Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 In a lofty garden, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 And chosen goblets. 14 cushions ranged, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
