Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In a high Garden 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 with a flowing spring, 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 and goblets set forth 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
