Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 In a Garden on high, 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 In which are high thrones. 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 and outspread carpets. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
