Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In a high Garden 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 In which are high thrones. 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 and arranged cushions 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
