Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 and raised couches, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
