Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 In which are high thrones. 13 And cups put in place 14 cushions ranged, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
Almighty God's Truth.
