Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 Glad with their endeavour (for their good deeds which they did in this world, along with the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism). 9 In a Garden on high, 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
