Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Hath there come unto thee the story of the Enveloping Event? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 In a Garden on high, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 and cushions ranged, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
