Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
