Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Hath there come unto thee the story of the Enveloping Event? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 in a garden sublime, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 and outspread carpets. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Remind them; you are surely a reminder. 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
