Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions lined up 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
