Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
