Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 And cups set at hand. 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
