Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In a Garden on high, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 Goblets set, 14 Cushions arranged, 15 and outspread carpets. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
