Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 In a high Garden. 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 In which are high thrones. 13 and goblets set forth 14 cushions ranged, 15 And linen spread out. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
