Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 in a garden sublime, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 and raised couches, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
