Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In a Garden on high, 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 And cups set at hand. 14 well-placed cushions, 15 and well spread carpets. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
