Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 in a garden sublime, 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 raised couches, 13 And chosen goblets. 14 and arranged cushions 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
