Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 and raised couches, 13 Goblets set, 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And linen spread out. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
