Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 in a garden sublime, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
