Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In a high Garden 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 raised couches, 13 and goblets set forth 14 and cushions ranged, 15 and well spread carpets. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
