Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 labouring, weary, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heaven how it has been raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
God the Almighty always says the truth.
