Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 In which are high thrones. 13 well arranged goblets, 14 and cushions ranged, 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
