Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 and couches raised high, 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions ranged 15 And carpets spread around. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
