Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 cushions ranged, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
