Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions lined up 15 and well spread carpets. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
