Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 and couches raised high, 13 And chosen goblets. 14 And cushions ranged 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
