Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 in a garden sublime, 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
