Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 labouring, weary, 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 and raised couches, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and outspread carpets. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
