Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 And chosen goblets. 14 And cushions lined up 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26

عند قراءة القرآن الملون في وضعية اللغة العربية المرسومة بالأحرف الإنجليزية، قد لا تلاحظ وجود منظومة برمجية مصممة لمطابقة متطلبات علامات الوقف في النص العربي الأصلي. فكما تعلم، يحتوي القرآن على خمسة أنواع رئيسية من علامات الوقف. (1) وقف لازم، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي نقطة وقف. (2) وقف جائز مع الوقف أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلثين. (3) وقف جائز مع تساوي أولوية الوقف والوصل، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال النصف للنصف. (4) وقف جائز مع الوصل أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلث. (5) وقف المجاذبة أو المعانقة حيث يجب الوقف في أي من موضعين قريبين ولكن ليس كلاهما، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة تظهر في أحد الموقعين باحتمال النصف للنصف.
When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
