Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In a high Garden. 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 And chosen goblets. 14 and cushions ranged, 15 and well spread carpets. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 you are not their keeper. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
