Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 in a Garden on high, 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 and couches raised high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions lined up 15 and well spread carpets. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
