Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 Going into the blazing fire. 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 and raised couches, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 And cushions lined up 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven - how it has been raised? 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And the earth - how it has been spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
