Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
Almighty God's Truth.
